2019 Volkswagen T-Roc Spied Near Nürburgring
Nürburgring is the proving grounds for performance vehicles and when one spots a test mule on the track or around that area, chances are the vehicle is packing heat. We know Volkswagen plans to launch three new R-branded models within the next year including a T-Roc variant. Now a prototype of said high-performance vehicle has been spotted in Germany this week.
Don’t question how, but Motor Authority
managed to acquire some close up spy photos of the T-Roc R’s exterior including the quad-exhaust tips that looks eerily similar to what you’d find on the Volkswagen Golf R. The front facia seems to have been updated as well to fit in larger air intakes and a new grille.
According to their spy photographer, even the engine note sounded similar to the hot hatch’s. Could be an indicator that both vehicles are powered by the same engine.
Lifting the hood of a Golf R, one would find a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine delivering 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Opt for the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the Golf R can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. A similar powertrain setup may be shared with the upcoming T-Roc R.
With the lack of camouflage on this test mule, we can only assume the production model’s debut is just around the corner.
